We have links to free stuff and suggestions of publications we use regularly and think you should, too.
We object to the term “art object,” but it’s how OSR systems label such things. While these are ostensibly for fantasy, they could be used to generate descriptions for any type of game, and since StG! uses a base of pennies, the prices can be easily converted as well by effectively making every GP equivalent to a dollar. In modern games, perhaps multiply by 20.
Art Object Generator from ChaoticShiny
This page is a great way to come up with descriptions of valuable and not-so-valuable works of art found in your games.
Another “art object” generator, this one gives slightly different types of descriptions and includes values.
We haven’t used this one much, but found it in a search for others we use more typically. It gives not only a title, author and topic/type of book, but also description of condition, number of pages, and value.
Both of these books are incredibly useful. Every kind of generator you can imagine from quick character gen, towns and cities, inns(with descriptions including house special and noteworthy details), gems, potions, it’s nearly endless. Also contains an encapsulated list of most OSR monsters in general BECMI style.
